If you love the outdoors, exploring, and map reading, then Orienteering is for you!
Orienteering is the sport of navigating through an unfamiliar area using a map and perhaps a compass. The object is to make your way through a series of points identified on a map and return to the finish line in the shortest amount of time as possible. The route of your journey is up to you. At each marked point, you will find an orange and white "control" marker and a unique punch so you can punch your card to prove that you've found the control.
Whether walking or running, this sport involves endurance, ingenuity, and decision making. It is a sport for everyone, regardless of age or experience with courses from beginner to advanced.
Participation fees are $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for youth (through high school). A family maximum is $15.00 per event. A $2.00 discount is granted for SLOC members and youth groups (if you become a new SLOC member at a meet, that meet's fees are waived).
If your group or organization would like an Orienteering guest speaker, please call David Kuechenmeister at 314-388-1423 or email markkstreamteam888@juno.com . This free service includes a 12 minute video, "Orienteering - All is Welcome".
Hope to see you soon!!!
