Cliff Cave O Meet

It was a beautiful winter day for an O meet with snow on the ground and cold enough temps to keep the ground firm early but it got pretty sloppy later.  The course was a 20 control score O.  We let people decide on the fly whether they wanted to do 60 or 90 minutes as we wanted as many people as possible to get all of the controls.  The first runner in at 56:20 was Linda Donskanen, Mark Geldmeier’s foreign exchange student.  She was breathing hard but was concerned she missed one.  She did.  The circles were hard to read on the pre-marked maps with all the pits at CC and she missed number 16.  She might have pulled off the win if she had gotten it but we’ll never know.  Next in was Mike Minium from Ohio in a time of 57:12 and he had them all.  Turns out 3 people were able to get them all in the 60 minute timeframe- Mike Minium, Ken DeBeer and Rudy Schwarz.  When going out to 90 minutes- 7 more solos and 1 group were able to get them all.  Many people were pushing to the time limit to get as many points as possible and the overall results had some close finishes.  Glad there was a nice turnout and it was a good day to be outside.  Thanks to Doug Nishimura, Bill Langdon, Michael Swoboda, Thomas Metzenthin and Jaime Robert for control pickup.  Also, thanks to the Paragould School for the hot water and noodles (and the 4 hour drive from AR and 0400 wake up time to get here)!
